Bad news: Under state rules, the system was obsolete and had to be replaced — an undertaking that tore up the Schollins’ front and rear yards and took more than 10 weeks. It wasn’t cheap, either. “By the time we were done, it cost us $35,000,” said Dawn Schollin, a retired school media specialist.
